Did you know that the U.S. Navy recovered our Apollo Astronauts when they returned from the moon on each mission? One fleet was in the Pacific commanded by The USS Hornet which was the primary recovery ship. There was also another fleet in the Atlantic in case there was failure of the Saturn V during launches. No one really remembers the role our navy played and it is sad to me.

The Apollo Naval Recovery Ships
Have any of you heard of the Apollo Naval Recovery Ships? There were eleven missions and about 80 ships. The USS Hornet was the Primary Recovery Ship for Apollo 11 and Apollo 12. The primary ships were designated PRS. The Hornet is now a wonderful navy museum. Look it up and you can find it's Museum and location.
