Did you know that the U.S. Navy recovered our Apollo Astronauts when they returned from the moon on each mission? One fleet was in the Pacific commanded by The USS Hornet which was the primary recovery ship. There was also another fleet in the Atlantic in case there was failure of the Saturn V during launches. No one really remembers the role our navy played and it is sad to me.
