The Bright lights in the Michoud Assembly Factory

Isn't it amazing how the Saturn V was built-stage by stage?
A word of how most of the stages were constructed. A contractor made the outside skin or skirts. Another contractor made the engines (Rocketdyne), still another one made the fuel tanks. Then there was the instrument ring which I will write about later that was made by another contractor. Then there were all the valves and hoses and insides of every stage. Even in the 1960's these stages were quite complicated. But they worked I'm sure much to the delight of our astronauts. We at Boeing took all these parts and assembled them together somewhat like an erector set. :o). Then came the testing which you know by now was extensive. BTW, every weld was X-Rayed-sometimes more than once. Everything had to be perfect (lives depended on that and we were well aware of it every minute). Note to any Astronaut who might read this: We loved you guys and prayed for your safety every day. No boss had to remind us of our mission.
Look at the red covers on the engines.

It was very noisy in the plant.
