The Space Shuttle has done a marvelous job for which it was intended. The Shuttle will soon be retired and another era in our exploration of Space will come to an end. That is sad for everyone. But wonderful new space ships loom on the horizon. Mankind will continue to build smarter and better and faster spacecraft. I was told by one astronomer that the cutting edge of science and exploration is the possibility of folding space. How cool is that? To me the greatest achievements of the Space Shuttle are the launching of all of our Space Telescopes-the Hubble, the Chandra, the Spitzer and more. What marvels!

Yes, I would agree that the astronomical observatories, flown in all wavelengths from infrared to x-ray, are among the most noteworthy achievements of the shuttle program.
