The Damage to The Flame Trench


























When the Shuttle Discovery launched on May 31st this year there was a big surprise waiting for the engineers and personnel at the pad (39B). The pictures you are seeing were a surprise to me ,too. The exhaust blew the heck out of the trench. The chunks you see on the road, in the fence and all over the road are concrete and brick. The solid boosters generate a million pounds of thrust each-never mind the three J-2 engines.
