The Five F-1 Engines

This is an artist's rendering of an F-1 Engine. These are so big that it looks like you can drive a locomotive into one. When I first saw one, I was rendered speechless. Up close they look as large as a Boeing 747 without the wings.

Seven and 1/2 million pounds of thrust was generated by the 5 engines on the 1st Stage. The Saturn V of Apollo was taller than the Statue of Liberty. It took 2 Minutes 30 seconds to reach 38 miles (the end of the atmosphere). There were 4 Stages. Biggest ROCKET ever built in the world. We were the first to go to another planet.
